Dave Stewart

Dave Stewart is the drummer for ‘Tilt’ and long time friend of Steve Vantsis. Dave’s background in music saw him starting out playing drums at the age of 8. Dave’s first musical influences were mainly Jazz based, however at the age of 16 joined Edinburgh band ’Slice’ fronted by ‘Tilt’ cohort Nick Robertson that went on to get signed to Circa records. It was after this that Dave toured with Edinburgh band ’The Liberties’ taking in a UK Support slot alongside kd lang. Dave then joined Edinburgh band ’Smile’ who had Scottish chart success with their debut single, reaching the Top 20 with a song called ‘Obvious’. Smile then transformed into ‘The Felsons’ which saw the band being invited as special guests on the ‘Mavericks’ UK arena tour. In between tours Dave was actively playing in the Edinburgh pub circuit where he first met Steve Vantsis who was also filling in between tours.

Dave got the call in 1995 at the age of 23 to join ‘Fish’s band in which he was to stay for 7 years and saw him record numerous studio albums along with many world tours.

In 1997 Dave got the call to join forces with prog rock legends ‘Camel’ on their ‘Harbour of Tears’ world tour. This was also to lead to Dave recording their next studio album entitled ’Rajaz’ and also had him recording Colin bass’s first solo album ‘An Outcast of the Islands’ which he was also later to tour. It was in 1997 that both Steve, Robin and Dave were to play together for the first time when they embarked on a world tour with Fish for 8 months.

It was shortly after this that both Steve and Dave were called upon to work with KT Tunstall which saw them recording and playing live with Kate immediately prior to her being signed.

Dave has also been called upon by artists such as Simple Minds, The Blue Nile, Matt Goss, Deacon Blue, Sandi Thom to either tour or record with.

Dave is still an in demand session player along with working for Sabian Cymbals in the UK.
